PERDIDO KEY, Fla. — The 2026 Interstate Mullet Toss formally started Friday on the Flora-Bama in Perdido Key.
The occasion runs from Friday by way of Sunday.
Daily tossing begins at 10 a.m. Children toss from 10 a.m. to midday every day. Adults toss from midday to 4 p.m.
The price to toss is $20. Tossers will obtain a T-shirt.
Proceeds from the toss go to native charities.
“We do three different ones — we have the Drug and Alcohol Council, we do the Boys and Girls Club of Escambia and Baldwin County,” Flora-Bama advertising director Jennifer Parnell mentioned.
This marks the forty second 12 months for the occasion.
WEAR News interviewed folks on Friday from Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, Montana and a number of other different states.
The concept originated from musician Jimmy Lewis after seeing a cow patty throwing competitors in Texas.
After deciding on throwing the mullet — a fish indigenous to the Gulf Coast — they turned it into the Gulf Coast’s best seaside get together in 1984.
It’s been an annual occasion ever since.
“This is a unique event and it’s unique to the area — and it’s all about fun,” Parnell mentioned. “Flora-Bama is just a shell. It’s the people that make it, so we want people to be able to come, do something fun, celebrate with their family, enjoy life, and have some core memories for the rest of their life.”

All of the mullets tossed had been bought from native fish market “Bon Secour Fisheries.” The fish are donated to “Alligator Alley” after the occasion.
