GB swimming star Angharad Evans unique: “I’ve silenced the voices in the back of my head”

Evans has skilled and studied on the University of Sterling since January 2023, having moved again to the UK after a troublesome 18 months on the University of Georgia within the USA.

“I don’t regret going at all, but it definitely wasn’t the place for me,” displays Evans, who has simply accomplished the third 12 months of her enterprise research and administration diploma.

“I used to be on much more metres than I’m on now and my swimming actually suffered for it. 

“If you informed me in Georgia that I’d be making the Olympics, I would not have believed you, as a result of the usual simply wasn’t there.

“The training was one size fits all, but in Sterling it’s so differentiated. My training is specifically for me.”

At the National Swimming Academy in Scotland, Evans trains alongside eight-time Olympic medallist Duncan Scott and Paris 2024 champion Tom Dean.

“The group has been growing recently and everyone is really motivated and pushing each other on,” says Evans.

“I do lean on Duncan sometimes for advice. If I’m suffering with nerves or wondering why am I doing this at this point in the season, he’s always a good reference point and he’ll really bring you back down to earth.”

Another British nice that Evans has turned to is one in every of her heroes, Adam Ramsay-Peaty, the three-time Olympic champion and 50m and 100m breaststroke world report holder.

“I was such a big fan of his growing up, so to be in teams with him now is really cool.” she says.

“I used to be 13 when he received at Rio 2016 and that’s the age the place you idolise him and you actually use him to look as much as.

“Adam has achieved issues that nobody on the planet has ever achieved, so I undoubtedly go and ask him for recommendation. He is aware of all about breaststroke.

“He’s given me small tips here and there, which have been really useful. It’s really special to have him around the poolside still and it’s great for GB that he is going to LA.”
