Hokie Nation,
What a week.
Since the moment my family and I arrived in Blacksburg, we have truly felt the passion, pride, and sense of community that make Virginia Tech so special. We had high expectations coming in, yet have still been blown away by the enthusiasm that this place holds. That feeling of “Home” and the excitement that comes with it instantly set in. We are excited to be part of this wide stretching community and one of the most passionate fan bases in the country.
Having watched Virginia Tech from the outside for a long time, as an administrator and as a competitor, I always respected what this program and what this community represent. But there is a difference between watching and being here. I stood on the field with Coach Franklin as soon as I arrived and just took it in. I thought about Enter Sandman. One of the most iconic traditions in sports. That moment alone was special, but what excites me most is knowing that in just a few short months the stadium will be filled with fans like you. Taking part in the collective effort that goes into creating unforgettable moments. Creating more of these special moments is a huge part of what we need to do and what we will continue to do as we build for the future.
The foundation here is strong. The momentum this university has built is real. From Coach Franklin, to President Sands, to the Board of Visitors, the alignment and investment Hokie Nation makes in this place every single day all adds up. This does not exist everywhere you go. I do not take that for granted and I am going to make sure we build on it.
As we move forward together, my commitment is simple: to listen, to learn, and to work relentlessly in service of Virginia Tech Athletics. We have tremendous opportunities ahead. We’re focused on building programs that compete at the highest level and win championships. I truly believe the best days for the Hokies are still in front of us.
Thank you for the warm welcome my family and I have already received. I’m truly excited to be here and fired up for what’s ahead.
Go Hokies!
