Q&A with Wedding Photographer Zai Laffitte

Sometimes Zai Laffitte can’t consider her success. “I get to do what I love in terms of photography and do what I love in terms of travel and put them together,” says Laffitte. With 39 nations logged in her passport to this point, the Jensen Beach resident follows brides to romantic locations all over the world to seize the marriage photographs they may cherish for a lifetime.

Laffitte started her profession as a journalist for Treasure Coast Newspapers, a job that ready her to be a profitable photographer. “Photography is another form of storytelling,” says Laffitte. She began dabbling in images in her spare time and launched a MyArea website to point out off her work. “I would go up to people and ask if I could photograph them. It’s funny to remember how bold you are when you are young,” she says.

When native photographer Steven Martine recruited her to assist with a marriage, Laffitte noticed her path ahead. “It was very exciting and creative and beautiful. It’s one of the greatest days of people’s lives and you get to be a part of that,” she says. “From then on, I started shooting weddings and never looked back.” Today, she’s extremely wanted for weddings the world over—together with Italy, Spain, Greece, England, France, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and extra. Her photographs have been showcased in publications like Vogue Britain, Brides, and The New York Times. Not unhealthy for a hometown lady who began out on MyArea.

Q: What makes an important wedding ceremony picture?

A: For me, a very powerful photographs should not the posed ones or those the place somebody appears good. A: The most original wedding ceremony I ever photographed was at a campground in Canada. It was an entire group factor. A: Yes! I used to be at a marriage with loads of candles on tables. My hair was down and I used to be attempting to get across the crowded dance flooring, so I leaned again over a desk. I smelled burnt hair and thought, “Oh no! Someone’s hair is on fire!” People began hitting my again and I noticed it was my hair on fireplace!

A: I had a bride who actually appreciated Disney and she or he requested me to Photoshop Mickey Mouse ears into the background of a few of her photographs. It was an odd request.

Q: What’s some of the memorable photographs you’ve captured at a marriage?

A: There was a marriage the place the bride had lately misplaced her father. During the ceremony, a butterfly landed on the arch behind her and stayed there for a little bit bit. I received this picture of
the butterfly in focus and the bride within the background. It provides me goosebumps simply speaking about it.
