Ocean Photographer of the Year 2026 finalists introduced

With nearly three quarters of the world lined in water, it’s hardly stunning that the oceans present such various alternatives for marine photographers.

The big variety in creative alternative is clearly seen within the finalists for 2026’s Ocean Photographer of the Year award.

Finalists, who’ve simply been introduced, have captured magnificent pictures of all the things from fish defending their younger to human influence – good and dangerous.

Organizers acquired 1000’s of “extraordinary images,” in accordance with a Thursday press launch. The competitors is split into a variety of classes, together with wildlife, advantageous artwork and conservation.

Among the standout photographs is one which reveals two orcas working collectively to hold a humpback whale calf they hunted, whereas one other depicts an unlimited oceanic sunfish.

A brand new class has been launched this 12 months titled “Ocean Unseen: Hidden Worlds” which, in accordance with organizers, “turns the lens to the ocean’s smallest and least-seen inhabitants.”

Will Harrison, founder and director of the annual contest, mentioned: “These photographs don’t just capture what’s beneath the surface; they surface the stories our planet most needs us to hear.”

“As the pressures on our ocean grow, so does the importance of the artists who bear witness to them,” he added.

“This year’s finalists have produced work of extraordinary depth and courage, and we’re proud that Ocean Photographer of the Year continues to be the platform where those stories reach the world,” he added.
