Fall Festivals

Fall means leaf peeping and pumpkins for some. For others, it’s the ritual of harvest, nice tunes and good beer, or the possibility to make artwork for charity. Across the nation, a handful of fall festivals seize these rhythms.

The Telluride Blues and Brews Festival (tellurideblues.com) is held within the historic Colorado mining city September 18-20. It lands simply when the air turns crisp, and the golden aspens begin to edge the panorama, inviting vacationers to settle onto blankets unfold throughout the park or transfer between phases for blues, funk, rock, indie, gospel, and soul performances, accompanied by a few of the nation’s finest craft beers.

At the Warrens Cranberry Festival (cranfest.com) in Warrens, Wisconsin, September 25-27, the county-fair-meets-flea-market vitality is on full show and attracts roughly 145,000 guests who wander between working bogs, discuss instantly with growers, watch the parades, and pattern all the pieces from contemporary cranberries to home made sauces and baked items. But the true draw is seeing a working agricultural panorama in movement as growers wade into the bogs and the season with boots and booms, corralling berries in a course of that feels by turns time-honored and mesmerizing.

Proceeds from the pageant return to native charities, the artists’ charities, and downtown improvement.

Luggage Lurkers

A latest research by InsureandGo and microbiologist Amy-May Pointer reveals that suitcases carry an alarming assortment of microscopic hitchhikers. Pointer’s swab exams recognized “presumptive Staphylococcus,” “likely Bacillus,” mould, and all the pieces in between. Soft-sided suitcases fared worse than arduous shells, trapping extra moisture, mud, and natural matter — a bacterial feast. Improve your baggage hygiene with Pointer’s, uh, pointers:

Clean suitcases. Wipe the wheels and base with disinfectant or a heat soapy fabric after each journey.

Wash your arms. Use cleaning soap and water for round 20 seconds after dealing with your baggage.

Service Freeze

In May, Delta Air Lines ended its snack and beverage service in the primary cabin on flights of lower than 350 miles. Delta Comfort and First Class passengers will nonetheless obtain full service, no matter flight size.
