Kendall was born on March 6, 1957, in Pensacola, Florida, the son of Harry J. and Carol E. Dies. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1975 and attended Hutchinson Community College. He attended taxidermy college, starting a profession that may turn out to be each his career and his ardour. In March of 1984, Kendall was united in marriage to Jennifer G. Huffman in Hawaii.

He was preceded in loss of life by his grandparents, Herman & Millie Shaw and Earl & Mabel Shugar; mother and father, Harry & Carol Dies; brother, Scott Shaw; and his beloved canine, Gauge.
