A Little Time for Parents, A Lot of Enjoyable for Kids: Mayor Mamdani’s First Parents’ Night Out

NEW YORK – This previous weekend, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura hosted New York City’s first Parents’ Night Out, giving almost 300 kids an evening of enjoyable at recreation facilities throughout all 5 boroughs whereas their dad and mom loved just a few hours to themselves.

The program was hosted on the Kwame Ture Recreation Center within the Bronx, Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center in Brooklyn, Highbridge Recreation Center in Manhattan, Al Oerter Recreation Center in Queens and Greenbelt Recreation Center on Staten Island. Participating kids additionally acquired free NYC Parks Recreation Center memberships, with greater than 100 new memberships issued all through the night.

In a survey of taking part dad and mom, households shared how they spent their time:

• 22% loved a date night time.
• 19% dined at an area restaurant.
• 16% went purchasing.
• 9% frolicked with associates or household.
• 7% visited a cultural establishment.
• 5% relaxed or caught up on sleep.

Every single staff member that I interacted with/observed went above and beyond to be helpful and kind! The rec center in the Bronx is well taken care of, and a great environment. The schedule of events was a dream for my daughter. For me, programming like this is life changing. As a parent, I’m endlessly in survival mode; this night created breathing room while providing joyful social enrichment for my daughter at the same time. Thank you very much to all. Free and Low-Cost Cultural Experiences

Through a partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Parents’ Night Out additionally gave dad and mom the chance to take pleasure in free and low-cost cultural experiences throughout town whereas their children had enjoyable at NYC Parks recreation facilities.
