Connecting Water Security and Healthy Dwelling

With temperatures excessive this summer season, Kaiser Permanente’s Operation Splash initiative awarded greater than $600,000 in grants to help aquatic packages throughout Southern California. Recipients embrace the Desert Recreation District and the cities of Bakersfield, Riverside, San Bernardino, Chula Vista, Ventura, Santa Ana, and Los Angeles.

Operation Splash is a Kaiser Permanente Community Health initiative that helps individuals be taught to swim and keep protected round water. The program focuses on stopping drowning and increasing entry to swimming alternatives, particularly in communities with restricted sources. Since 2006, Operation Splash has helped almost 330,000 youngsters, teenagers, and adults by swimming classes, water security courses, and leisure swimming alternatives supplied with native parks and recreation companies.

Helping extra households be taught to swim safely 

Operation Splash helps free or reduced-cost swim classes, water security schooling, swim passes, and junior lifeguard coaching for certified youth ages 10 to 17. Junior Lifeguard packages train water rescue and security abilities, construct confidence, develop management, and introduce youth to profession pathways in aquatics and public security.

“Learning how to swim is an important life skill that can help prevent drowning and keep families safe around water,” mentioned Danielle Flowers, MD, a pediatrician on the Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center. “Swimming is also a fun way for children and adults to stay active during the summer.”
