Manasquan seashore was briefly closed over the weekend after needles have been discovered on a shore.

Manasquan Mayor Mike Managan says a patron discovered 5 needles, which prompted a sweep of the seashore.

A complete of 60 needles have been discovered in the course of the search. County well being officers have been notified concerning the discovery.

Beachgoers advised News12 on Sunday they have been shocked to listen to concerning the information.

Priscilla Mahajan, of Manasquan, stated she cleaned up a few of the particles on the seashore Saturday and supported the choice to shut it. But after returning Sunday morning and recognizing what seemed to be needle plungers and drug paraphernalia, she believes the seashore reopened too quickly.

“One beach cleanup is definitely not enough to say something is safe,” Mahajan stated. “We can’t change what’s in the ocean or what people have done in the past, but we can change our reaction to it.”

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) says current heavy rain possible prompted sewer overflows that carried particles onto the seashore. Officials say a lot of what washed up was family waste, together with insulin syringes generally used at residence.

A Facebook submit from the Manasquan OEM says the seashore was re-elevated after two excessive tides on Sunday.
