Los Angeles strolling images membership shines a light-weight on southeast communities one photograph at a time

LOS ANGELES (KABC) (KABC) — There’s a brand new photograph membership centered on capturing the individuals, shade and tradition of southeast Los Angeles.

David Hernandez and Alan Arvizu began SELA Photo Walk a pair months in the past, hoping to shine a constructive gentle on southeast L.A., often known as SELA.

“It’s Huntington Park, Bell, Cudahy, Maywood, Lynwood, and then Vernon, as well,” stated Arvizu.

They meet up as soon as a month in a distinct metropolis, taking photos whereas strolling the devoted route.

“My purpose was to basically bring people not only from SELA, but outside to come, and come and meet SELA at the end of the day, you know, come and check out our own hometowns where we’re from and what we’re doing,” Hernandez stated.

“We kind of look like paparazzi, like tourists around the city. So it’s kind of funny, but I think it’s just as important because people are looking at us, you know? People are like, ‘Oh, who are these people? Like, what are they doing?’ It just draws more attention and that’s what we want, you know, positive attention to the city,” Arvizu stated.

One photograph at a time, they’re hoping individuals begin to see these areas with totally different views.

“I think for us really, it’s about focusing on the communities that have often been left out conversations” or have been underserved and underrepresented,” said ,Diana Morales of the SELA Arts Foundation.

They’ve also had a historian on one of the photo walks, even a poet. The next photo walk in Sunday, Sept. 27.
