Passion for textiles and images melded into inventive exhibit

For the month of September, a Yennadon multi-media artist can be displaying her work in a solo exhibition on the Maple Ridge library.

Acclaimed textile designer and photographer Maureen Wouterloot unveiled “Fabric re Form” final weekend, and her exhibit will stay on show till Sept. 30.

The assortment will function 11 giant pictures, 5 authentic apron/attire, and 4 tapestries.

“The display intimately examines the intersection of vintage fabric creation and upcycled couture artistry,” Wouterloot stated.

“Fabric re Form takes viewers on a visual journey through endangered textile traditions across the globe,” she added, noting that she utilized 35 SLR digicam color celluloid movie and pure lighting methods.

Wouterloot captures the microscopic topography of centuries outdated weaving methods, artificial dyes, and spun threads. The result’s a sequence of vivid giant format prints that reveal wealthy tactile qualities, cultural, heritage, and structural integrity of handmade textiles.

“I wanted to shift the viewers focus away from the garment itself and onto the foundational labour and artistry of the textile accessory.” defined the artist who operates out of her home-based Dogwood Creek Studio.

“Each thread tells a story of cultural evolution. Through photography I aim to preserve the legacy of these vintage and modern crafts, making the intangible ‘visible’ and highlighting the profound beauty embedded in our heritage.”

Her show is free to view on the primary ground (north wall) of the Maple Ridge Public Library.
