‘I want it to be something unique’: Alvin’s Alley Haunted Forest deliver Halloween enjoyable to the Mat-Su Valley

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Halloween season is nicely underway, and whereas Alaska has a deep love for the vacation, there aren’t many haunted sights that permit residents to take pleasure in some scares.

Alvin’s Alley Haunted Forest is getting down to change that.

“I’ve always wanted to have kind of that Halloween feel,” stated Nick Adams, proprietor and creator of the hang-out.

“It just felt like nothing really existed that to the level where you know we go through and get spooked and just enjoy the thrill of a haunted forest or even a haunted house.”

Adams stated that dream impressed him to buy the plot of land close to Alvin’s Alley in Wasilla. The first a part of the job, nevertheless, was getting it prepared for constructing.

“We looked at so many different parcels of land,” he stated.

“We wanted something that was somewhat centralized in the valley.”

The lot is stuffed with bushes, bushes, ponds, swamps and creeks — one thing which designer and engineer Nick Pfeiffer stated they used to their benefit.

“One of the things we’ve really liked doing is leaning into the environment we have,” he stated.

“You know, we have a swampy hole. Instead of being sad about it, you use it for something, and sometimes something that looks crappy is actually good.”

Unlike conventional haunts, which occur inside a constructing or maze, the Haunted Forest takes guests by means of a sprawling path of mines, swamps, cemeteries and extra.

The theme, in keeping with Adams, pays homage to Alaskan tradition.

“The origin of Alvin himself is a miner that kind of sells a soul to the Wendigo and it’s a lot of fun as far as, you know, he finds it big, at least strikes it big with the mother lode and he ends up actually kind of bringing all these folklore legends into place with this forest.”

Decorations like ghouls, cabins, and occasion Bigfoot could be discovered hiding within the bushes.

“I just remember how creepy it was walking through those woods and not really knowing what was around, what was going to pop out,” Pfeiffer stated.

“It’s mostly trying to set those memories for families and stuff that I’m after.”

“That’s what this year is about,” Adams stated.

“Not making it too expensive but making it something that people can come enjoy anyway while we’re still fixing stuff and trying to figure out what works for people.”

Alongside the forest, there are a number of different sights on the lot, together with two different smaller haunts and a store for souvenirs and concessions.

Adams stated he hopes to develop the attraction sooner or later.

“We really kind of hope to just kind of buildup, the excitement for what that theme’s going to be for that year,” he stated.

“If we decide to take Stranger Things or Five Nights at Freddy’s, whatever we may want to incorporate, we can just build off of that.”

If you may have younger kids, or simply aren’t eager on getting scared, Adams stated the hang-out is designed to be enjoyable for all ages.

“I hope it still appeals to all audiences, you know, that everyone from young to old can enjoy this,” he stated.

“But we do want to make sure that it still gets to the point where people enjoy kind of that thrill of that.”

Alvin’s Alley Haunted Forest opens on Oct. 9. The hang-out can be working on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays till Oct. 31.

Tickets price $15, and the hang-out can be open from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
