BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College men’s swimming & diving senior Brett Sheldrick (Plantsville, Conn.) was recognized as the Dunn Gaherin’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Friday.
Sheldrick has participated in three competitions this season for the Beavers, recently finishing seventh in the A final of the 100-yard backstroke, achieving a season-best time of 1:01.28 at the Fisher Invitational hosted by Roger Williams on November 22-23. Additionally, he marked his best times of the year in both the 50 free (24.97) and 100 free (54.79) during the two-day event.
A two-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference recipient, Sheldrick spent the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters studying at the London School of Economics. He achieved personal-best times of 57.59 in the 100 back and 27.75 in the 50 back at the 2023 conference championships and recorded the highest times of his career in three freestyle events as a newcomer at the 2022 NEWMAC Championships.
Babson (4-2) will return to competition when it visits Amherst on January 3 at 5 p.m. The Beavers will then come home to face Wesleyan at 12 p.m. on January 4.
Established in 2020, the Dunn Gaherin’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week accolade recognizes junior and senior student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or above.

What motivated your choice to attend Babson?
I chose to attend Babson because I desired an education that would challenge me to think beyond traditional boundaries–to utilize my creativity and determination to foster positive change in my communities. I also aspired to be a collegiate athlete, and when I visited during my junior year of high school, the swim team welcomed me warmly.
