This New York Rican photographer captures faith in each day life. You can see it right here in Hartford

Some folks discover religion in sudden locations. That’s the main focus of a pictures exhibit this month at Trinity College in Hartford.

“I think part of what I’m trying to do also is to show a more nuanced version of faith,” he stated. “I think people forget the more everyday aspects.”

Growing up within the South Bronx, González noticed the Catholic Church as a spot to prepare folks. He discovered clergy to be on the aspect of the poor in his group and watched as they took direct motion to do higher by them — rebuilding and revitalizing the neighborhood.

“Photography is hard if you’re like a blue collar Rican kid,” González stated. “My father was a handyman. My mother worked in a cafeteria. You think I was going to get money to buy camera equipment? I had to work my [butt] off one summer to buy a halfway decent camera.”

Picking up that first digital camera ultimately led González to a storied career at The New York Times, the place he labored for over three a long time as a columnist, editor and eventual Bronx bureau chief.

Now, his work as a gallery artist may be celebrated all month.
