Text description offered by the architects. A watchtower, or atalaya, is a development in a privileged place from which to look at or analyze one thing. In structure, this privileged place implies the necessity for openings at increased ranges above the bottom, which is why watchtowers are sometimes related to surveillance. However, a watchtower doesn’t must be very tall, nor does it have to visually dominate each nook of a territory to attain perspective—one which, certainly, goes far past mere surveillance.
