A brand new road pictures exhibition celebrating Lincoln and its residents opens on Saturday 22 November on the metropolis’s free public artwork gallery.
Last summer time, Richard Ansett joined the crowds of buyers on Lincoln’s High Street. Armed together with his trusty top-down viewfinder digicam, he snapped dozens of spontaneous pictures, capturing moments from a day within the lifetime of the town.
Now the images are happening show in a groundbreaking Arts Council England-funded exhibition, known as ‘RICHARD ANSETT: Liminal Presence’, on the Usher Gallery.
Filling the partitions of the gallery from floor-to-ceiling, ‘Liminal Presence’ is bodily one of many largest solo exhibitions of road pictures by a dwelling artist.
For Richard – an award-winning portrait photographer whose work has been displayed internationally and has featured in The National Portrait Gallery – this exhibition is a primary.
He explains: “Portrait pictures could be a meticulous course of. You can take a very long time build up a relationship with an individual to make them really feel snug. I will need to have taken tons of of hundreds of images however capturing that excellent photograph can really feel just like the holy grail! In Lincoln I wished to strive a totally completely different method, which is why I name this exhibition a ‘street photography experiment’.
