Redbirds Drop Collection Finale With Murray State Sunday Aftermidday

MURRAY, Ky. – The Illinois State baseball program suffered a 6-5 defeat within the collection finale with Murray State Sunday afternoon at Johnny Reagan Field. With the loss, the Redbirds fall to 22-17 and 6-9 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

After two scoreless frames, the Redbirds opened scoring the competition as Graduate Payton McHarg walked and a single from Junior Graham Mastros arrange a three-run residence run from Junior Michael Carrano Jr. to provide Illinois State a 3-0 benefit.

In the sixth, Sophomore Eric Machej singled, and Sophomore Louis Bussard doubled to position a pair of runners in scoring place for the Redbirds. Redshirt Sophomore Brayden Bakes was later hit by a pitch to load the bases for Illinois State within the body.

Moments later, Junior Ryan Bakes drew a stroll to attain Machej and push the Redbird benefit to 4-0. McHarg added one other run to increase the Illinois State result in 5-0 on a sacrifice fly.

In the house half of the sixth, Murray State struck again as, after a leadoff double, the Racers used an RBI single to plate their first run within the contest and transfer the rating to 5-1. Murray State later loaded the bases with back-to-back walks, with a runner stationed on every base, the Racers tallied consecutive RBI groundouts to chop the Redbird benefit to 5-3. Murray State added an extra run with an infield single to make the rating 5-4.

The Racers threatened an inning later after a Redbird error and a base hit positioned two runners on to start the body. Murray State labored each runners into scoring place, however Freshman Brayden Zilis labored out of the jam with a strikeout to keep up Illinois State’s 5-4 lead.

In the underside of the ninth, Racers tallied a pair of walks and a single to load the bases. With two outs, Murray State singled up the center to attain two runs and safe the walkoff victory 6-5.

• Graduate Camden Karczewski tallied his sixteenth multi-hit sport of the season with two hits.

• Junior Michael Carrano Jr. notched his fourth residence run of the marketing campaign with a three-run shot within the third. Carrano Jr. turned the ninth Redbird to surpass a double-digit RBI complete this season with a complete of 11.

• Sophomore Louis Bussard added his fourth multi-hit sport of the marketing campaign with two hits. Bussard tallied a double and his first triple as a Redbird within the contest.

• Redshirt Freshman Luke Teschke tallied 5.0 innings pitched and 5 strikeouts within the sport. Teschke has recorded not less than 5 innings tossed and 4 or extra punchouts in his final 5 begins.
