MURRAY, Ky. – The Illinois State baseball program suffered a 6-5 defeat within the collection finale with Murray State Sunday afternoon at Johnny Reagan Field. With the loss, the Redbirds fall to 22-17 and 6-9 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

After two scoreless frames, the Redbirds opened scoring the competition as Graduate Payton McHarg walked and a single from Junior Graham Mastros arrange a three-run residence run from Junior Michael Carrano Jr. to provide Illinois State a 3-0 benefit.

In the sixth, Sophomore Eric Machej singled, and Sophomore Louis Bussard doubled to position a pair of runners in scoring place for the Redbirds. Redshirt Sophomore Brayden Bakes was later hit by a pitch to load the bases for Illinois State within the body.

Moments later, Junior Ryan Bakes drew a stroll to attain Machej and push the Redbird benefit to 4-0. McHarg added one other run to increase the Illinois State result in 5-0 on a sacrifice fly.
