OBITUARY

Passed away peacefully in Rohnert Park on February 11, 2012, at dwelling surrounded by his loving household. John was born in Sausalito, CA, to Alice and Cheslie Donahue, on April 20, 1925. In September of 1942, at age 17, he enlisted within the U. S. Navy. Shortly after the tip of World War II, he returned dwelling and started his 37-year profession within the grocery enterprise. More than 27 of these years had been on the Golden Gate Market in Sausalito. He beloved working in smaller grocery shops and loved attending to know all the shoppers. During his lifetime, his hobbies included boating, water snowboarding, and bowling. At one time he bowled a rating of 299. His most notable passion was his hand-carving of gorgeous redwood indicators. During the 60’s his indicators graced many companies in downtown Sausalito. For Marin County’s Bicentennial, he designed and hand-carved the City of Sausalito’s six-foot redwood plaque which is on show to today on the Marin County Civic Center. In his later years, John beloved every kind of devices, from kitchen to backyard to expertise. He continued his inventive pursuits and loved visiting with buddies at his favourite pub. John is survived by his spouse Sonia; daughter Linda; son James; step-daughters Pam, Teri and Sonia; sister Phyllis; brothers Cheslie “Red” and Russell; 13 grandchildren, six nice grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews, and his treasured canine “Pebbles.” John shall be dearly missed by his household and buddies. A celebration of his life shall be held in April. Memorial contributions in his title could also be made to Hospice by the Bay, 190 West Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476.
