Aggie Spirit: A Journey Through Texas A&M Athletics

Committed and systematic, Alex Dawson has held the position of director of swimming & diving operations for both men’s and women’s teams at Texas A&M since 2007.

Dawson collaborates closely with the Aggie swimmers and divers as any staff member in the athletics department. He aids in the recruiting process, alongside various other extensive responsibilities assigned to him by both the men’s and women’s coaching staffs. He oversees all travel and logistics for away meets, and acts as the meet director for all home competitions.

 

He played a pivotal role in the planning and execution of the 2009 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships, 2010 Big 12 Championships, 2010 AT&T USA Diving Championships, as well as the 2013, 2018, and 2023 SEC Championships.

 

Dawson was appointed the head manager for the United States Swimming National Team during the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games after previously serving in the same capacity for Team USA at the 2014 Short Course World Championships in Doha, Qatar, the 2015 Duel in the Pool in Indianapolis, the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, Korea. He also held the position of High Performance Consultant for the USA Swimming National Team during the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Team Trials, the 2009, 2013, and 2014 USA World Championship Trials, and the 2013 World University Games in Shenzhen, China. 

Dawson was a four-year letterman for Texas A&M’s men’s swimming & diving squad, competing from 2003-06, and captained the team during his final season. An academic All-Big 12 selection, he qualified for the NCAA Championships in his junior year.

Dawson, who is married to the former Casey Walling, graduated from Texas A&M in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and a minor in business. Originally from Indianapolis, he graduated from North Central High School. The Dawsons are parents to two children, Parker and Kinley.
