Upon diving into the pool, you are racing against time. The thrill of achieving a new personal best combined with the pressure of competition during the 2024 swim and dive season.
We witnessed the dedication of male and female swimmers as they advanced into all-American rankings. Thanks to their accomplishments, along with the efforts of numerous skilled athletes, nine county records were broken this season.
On May 27th, the recipients of the Athlete of the Year award will be revealed at the MESPY’s. We’re highlighting our top two finalists along with their honors and achievements to keep you engaged until the main event.
Boys Swimmer of the Year nominees
Bryce LaBonte, Sr., Vanguard
Last season, LaBonte set the county record for the 500-yard freestyle as his aim. At The Marion Athletic Conference championship, he succeeded in his objective and inscribed his name in the county’s 200-yard IM record books.
The senior long-distance swimmer qualified for the 2A state swim meet in both events, claiming silver in each. LaBonte is considered for all-American status in the 500-yard freestyle.
Ian Disosway – JR – West Port
Disosway was the initial swimmer from Marion County to enter All-American contention this season. The junior supported West Port in recording three new county records in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay, and individually in the 200-yard IM.
Disosway’s quest for excellence went beyond just aiming for the All-American status; he aspired for more. At states, he made it to the podium in the 200 IM and secured second place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
