Your dog may be a show winner (and I love capturing images of award holders), but I am just as enthusiastic about working with your pup if they are untrained, hesitant in front of the camera, playful, anxious, grumpy, hyperactive, peculiar-looking… or any mix thereof. If you’re concerned your dog may not be suitable for modeling, have no worries… I’m here for you!

As an experienced dog owner and foster, I am sure that I can collaborate with dogs of various temperaments, ages, and breeds. I think every dog has its unique beauty (underbites, extra digits, and all) and is entitled to be the star of their own spectacular adventure photoshoots! I have the persistence, skills, and methods to draw out stunning poses and expressions from any dog.

My name is Valerie Howes, and I employ natural light photography to produce dog portraits in scenic locations. I was born in Scotland, my primary residence is in Toronto, and I travel for photo shoots by agreement.

I discovered my love for capturing images of dogs in natural settings while living on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, with my two dogs, Teddy Lennox and Piña. As a lifestyle and travel writer, I’ve had my photos featured in prominent media platforms, including CBC, Toronto Life, Toronto Star, National Post, The Guardian, Reader’s Digest, Today’s Parent, and La Presse.
