The head coach of Saint Joseph’s baseball, Fritz Hamburg, has unveiled the team’s schedule for 2025, which includes several local non-conference contests alongside early-season clashes against Power 4 teams and a revamped conference lineup.

In a notable adjustment, this season marks the inaugural year where the Atlantic 10 schedule incorporates 10 three-game series, allowing each team to play 30 conference matchups compared to 24 in previous seasons.

“I’m thrilled about the new 10-weekend series format in the A-10,” Hamburg expressed. “As a unified group, our A-10 coaches unanimously believe that this will provide improved equilibrium and transparency to the final standings. Each year, teams have fought not just through the last weekend but to the very last day. We have missed three, sometimes four competitors by having fewer conference weekends, and it significantly affects the appearance of the final standings and who qualifies for the A-10 Championship.”

The Hawks will commence their season against Coastal Carolina with a game against the Chanticleers on Friday, February 14. They will also compete against Washington twice and Kansas State once within a span of four days in South Carolina.

The subsequent weekend features two games at Mount St. Mary’s, followed by the home opener at Smithson Field against the Mountaineers on Sunday, February 23.

A midweek matchup at Rutgers will be succeeded by a road doubleheader at Bucknell on March 1, followed by a home game against the Bison on March 2. The Hawks will then travel to Rider two days later before hosting Seton Hall on March 7 and 8 and visiting the Pirates on March 9. A home contest against Lehigh on March 11 sets the stage for the conference schedule.

“We are thrilled to kick off the season,” Hamburg said. “This 2025 team will face challenges starting from the first pitch. It’s fantastic to have the chance to compete against teams like Coastal Carolina, Kansas State, and Washington. That opening weekend will serve as a benchmark to gauge where we stand as a team and where our focus will direct us moving forward. Weeks two through four will feature matchups against regional teams, which will be beneficial; cold, yet beneficial!”

The Hawks will begin their A-10 schedule at Saint Louis on March 14 before returning home for a midweek matchup against Delaware; Richmond will then come to Hawk Hill starting March 21 for SJU’s first home conference series.

The Liberty Bell Classic will initiate with the Hawks visiting Penn on March 25 before making their way to VCU three days later. The second round of the LBC will have the Hawks hosting either Delaware or Lafayette on April 1 prior to a road game at St. Bonaventure on April 4.

Starting April 11, the Hawks will participate in 11 consecutive home games, including three-game series with Fordham (April 11-13), Davidson (April 17-19), and Dayton (April 25-27). Sandwiched between the latter two series is a home matchup with Delaware on April 22, while a matchup against Villanova concludes the homestand.

May kicks off with a pair of conference series around the capital as the Hawks venture to the Washington, D.C., area to face both George Mason (May 2-4) and George Washington (May 9-11). A visit to Villanova on May 13 wraps up the road section of the schedule before a home series against Rhode Island on May 15-17 concludes the regular season.

The Atlantic 10 Championship will again be hosted at Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia, starting on Tuesday, May 20, with a champion to be determined on Saturday, May 24.

“Our focus for the season will center on a game-to-game mindset,” Hamburg stated. “With 23 new players, it’s not primarily about who we are facing but about how we are performing as a team, and where our growth is evident each day, each series, and every week. We are eagerly anticipating this year’s journey and the challenges ahead to become the best team we can achieve.”
