Kentucky Kernel, KRNL Lifestyle + Fashion win six awards at ACP College Media Mega Workshop – Kentucky Kernel

The Kentucky Kernel and KRNL Lifestyle + Fashion gained six Best of Show awards on the Associated Collegiate Press College Media Mega Workshop.

The convention was held in Minneapolis from July 23 to July 25. The Kernel gained 1st Place in two Best of Show classes together with Magazine for KRNL and Broadcast News Program for the Kernel Chronicles.

“I’m incredibly proud of this new editorial board and how far we have come,” Editor-in-Chief Sylvia Freire mentioned. “A lot of our staff is young and curious to do good journalism. I hope that seeing everyone’s curiosity lights a fire for their writing, videography, designs, leadership and more.”

Freire mentioned the convention was a possibility to be taught what the Kernel is excelling at and what it isn’t.

The awards function a mirrored image that the Kernel is ready to successfully work as a workforce to construct on its legacy of necessary school journalism, Freire mentioned.

“Being a part of a college newsroom is something that is incomparable to any other experience and it should be treasured,” Freire mentioned. “I think the Kernel’s newsroom has been truly a life changing place to be in. We are constantly adapting and evolving and that is how powerful journalism can be.”

Managing Editor Cara Raiford mentioned the Kernel has allowed her to develop each smooth and laborious abilities by providing a hands-on journalism alternative.

Raiford mentioned she is happy with the spring semester employees’s adaptation to the modernization of the newsroom.

“Our changes were intentional, and every change we have made this past year has been for the benefit of our audience,” Raiford mentioned.

Lilly Keith, Editor-in-Chief of KRNL Lifestyle + Fashion, mentioned the spring problem of the journal was her favourite one to date.

“Receiving the Best in Show awards is such an honor,” Keith mentioned. “I could not be more grateful to have been involved with the incredible team KRNL had last semester to produce the spring issue.”

Keith mentioned she is happy with the spring employees behind the journal and the way Kernel Media as an entire has grown over the previous 12 months.

Kernel adviser Ryan Craig mentioned the enterprise, type and supply of stories has modified drastically over the course of time the Kernel has been round.
