On May 12, Precious Onyeka Udemez, a devices seller, dedicated to refunding Blessing Iniobong, a Lagos resident, by the tip of May after accumulating N300,000 from her to swap her cellphone in October 2025 with out doing so.

“We still talked today. I’ve always been replying her. I told her earlier I had been sick for a while and wasn’t active. I’ll refund before or by the month’s end,” he advised FIJ on May 12.

As of Thursday, Omogbolahan Haruna, Iniobong’s pal, advised FIJ that the devices seller had not returned the cash.

When FIJ contacted Udemez on Tuesday, he confirmed this. “I haven’t because business has been slow. I haven’t made sales yet, as I’ve explained to her; I do want to refund, but things have been slow on my end. I’ll refund her; I’m working on it,” he mentioned.

BACKGROUND

Haruna narrated to FIJ on May 11 what had occurred.

“They agreed on the kind of phone (iPhone 14 Pro Max). Before that, they had not seen each other for so long, but they had been talking online on Snap and Instagram,” Haruna mentioned.

“On October 24, 2025, she sent him N300,000 for the payment and promised to balance the N50,000 whenever they bring the phone or when she receives it. Since then, the guy has refused to either bring the phone or refund the money.”

“We have been to his place several times, but we were unable to meet up with him. He was always giving excuses. The last time we went there, they said he had left the area. They said that he had moved out of his apartment for a while,” he mentioned.

“We tried every other alternative to reach out to him. He has not been responding. At one point in time, he was promising to make a refund. But all those promises and the dates, there was nothing, no outcome.”

Haruna advised FIJ that Udemez had made a number of guarantees to refund his pal. On May 13, he shared screenshots of Udemez’s chats with Iniobong, the place the cellphone seller promised to refund her in April. He didn’t fulfil the promise.
