Small marine animal bites swimmer in Foster City Lagoon – NBC Bay Space

An unidentified small marine animal bit a 74-year-old swimmer within the Foster City Lagoon Monday afternoon, officers stated.

The police division stated it acquired a report of a “marine animal bite incident” within the lagoon, close to Shearwater Isle. The lagoon is in a community of waterways that connect with San Francisco Bay, however police stated it’s uncommon for any marine animals apart from geese, geese and fish to get previous its obstacles.

Police stated the swimmer had small puncture wounds on his leg, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) stated the bites went via his wetsuit.

“Based on the initial assessment, the injury is consistent with a bite from a small marine animal,” police stated in an announcement. “At this time, the exact species has not been confirmed.”

The swimmer was handled by paramedics and deliberate to drive himself to the hospital for any additional remedy, if wanted, police stated.

CDFW officers stated they despatched a swab from the swimmer’s wounds and wetsuit to a lab for testing.

Anyone who spots uncommon marine animal exercise within the space is requested to name police.

“We are asking everyone to be aware of the ever present potential that, despite efforts to keep bay marine life out of the lagoon, the possibility always exists,” police said.
