Swimming: Mollie O’Callaghan to compete at Commonwealth Games 2026 after overcoming spinal harm

Mollie O’Callaghan has recovered from concurrent shoulder and again accidents in time to compete on the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Australian swimmer will head to her second Games in Glasgow, Great Britain, having gained seven medals on her competitors debut 4 years in the past in Birmingham.

This time spherical, it has been an uphill battle to be at full health, because the 22-year-old revealed that she was suggested to cease swimming because of the extent of her accidents.

“Last month I was told I wouldn’t be able to compete at Trials, the Commonwealth Games or Pan Pacs [Pan Pacific Swimming Championships],” O’Callaghan mentioned on social media.

“I was also told to stop swimming immediately. It was a moment that reinforced just how much representing Australia means to me and how badly I want to be part of this team.”

The five-time Olympic champion continued: “The scans confirmed stress fractures and bone oedema in my lumbar backbone. My group instantly sought recommendation from a spinal specialist to see if there was any protected approach for me to compete.

“Thankfully, after further assessment everything has continued to move in a positive direction, and after Trials I was given the green light to compete at the Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacs. Things might look a little different for me at the Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacs but I’ll give everything I have and do my absolute best every time I race.”

The Commonwealth Games happen in Scotland from 23 July to 2 August, forward of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in California, USA, from 12-15 August.
