78th annual Strawberry Festival wraps up day one

CHASSELL, Mich. (WLUC) – One of the Copper Country’s most beloved celebrations has wrapped up its first day.

Community members and guests swarmed Chassell on Friday to participate within the annual Copper Country Strawberry Festival. From distributors to a kids’s parade to the crowning of the pageant queen, there was no scarcity of actions.

Meanwhile, the Chassell Lions Club members labored repeatedly to make the pageant’s staple dessert, strawberry shortcake. Previously, we have been informed that 5,000 shortcakes can be served this 12 months. However, the membership knowledgeable us Friday that they’re aiming to serve nearer to five,200 shortcakes.

“We couldn’t do it without the Lions, the volunteers, the community, the berry growers,” Chassell Lions Club Board Member Ross Rinkinen mentioned. “It’s really everyone coming together and making it happen.”
