Swanson nips Dorothy Hamm to win middle-school swimming title

The Swanson Admirals had clean crusing within the 2026 Arlington middle-school swimming championships, held April 16 at Wakefield High School’s pool.

With 1,219.5 whole factors, Swanson edged out Dorothy Hamm Middle School (1,190.5) within the total standings, counting each ladies and boys competitors.

Williamsburg Middle School positioned third, adopted by Gunston, Thomas Jefferson and Kenmore center colleges.

In the women competitors, Dorothy Hamm’s squad completed first, adopted by Swanson and Williamsburg. In the boys competitors, Swanson was first, adopted by Williamsburg and Dorothy Hamm.

A complete of 141 swimmers — 74 boys and 67 ladies — participated within the competitors.

The prime performer within the meet was Williamsburg Middle School seventh-grade swimmer Maddie Nielsen, a workforce co-captain who delivered 88 factors to her workforce.

Nielsen is also a part of Arlington’s broader swim neighborhood, coaching year-round with the newly shaped Hydra Swim Team and competing in the summertime for each Tuckahoe Swim Club and Washington Golf & Country Club.

Rounding out the highest 5 feminine swimmers had been Susie Richard, Dorothy Hamm (81 factors); Julia McCarthy, Dorothy Hamm (79); and Pippa Chin-Fatt, Dorothy Hamm and Blake Luongo, Williamsburg Middle (76 every).

With a cumulative rating of 76, Gavin Heeb of Dorothy Hamm positioned first amongst boys swimmers, adopted by William Coleman and Maddox Cory of Williamsburg Middle (72 every) and Grant Nielsen of Williamsburg Middle and Vikas Gonzalez of Dorothy Hamm Middle (69 every).

The April 16 meet marked the ultimate middle-school competitors for Arlington Public Schools’ eighth-grade swimmers, a lot of whom will transfer on to high-school competitors within the coming college 12 months.
