Of course, by Andor, the cracks in Mon and Perrin’s marriage are clear for all to see—even when there are nonetheless sparks right here and there of what love that they had for one another. It makes Mask of Fear all of the extra fascinating that, regardless of being chronologically earlier, it was launched sandwiched between Andor‘s first and second seasons, which not only saw the husband and wife thrust back into the marriage rites of their culture thanks to daughter Leida but ultimately ends with Mon fleeing Coruscant and her husband, and Perrin emptily finding the comforts of his lavish life with other women. But Freed didn’t have an excessive amount of of a chance to actually go deep into their relationship with a view to keep away from any potential points linking up with Andor‘s sophomore season.

“Everything that was getting written was getting read by Lucasfilm folks. So had I gone astray, it would have gotten caught.” Freed added. “The general vibe was like, ‘Yeah, play with this a bit, but don’t go ridiculously deep with it, either. This is largely going to be living within the TV show, so try to keep this to subplot level.’ And that was fine with me.”

It may need solely been a subplot in Mask of Fear, however with Mon, Perrin, and Leida all set to seem within the subsequent Reign novel, Edge of the Abyss, little doubt we’ll get to see much more of their fracturing relationship because the novels edge nearer and near the time of Andor.
