DEMOREST — The Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art at Piedmont University has prolonged the run of “Conserving America’s Wildlands: The Vision of Ted Turner,” a touring images exhibition by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and photographer Rhett Turner.
The exhibition options 48 pictures taken throughout 23 Turner properties spanning practically 2 million acres. Organizers mentioned the gathering serves as each a tribute to Turner’s father, media entrepreneur and conservationist Ted Turner, and a visible exploration of land conservation efforts throughout the United States.
Ted Turner, who handed away May 6 of Lewy Body Dementia, focused on philanthropy in his later years and his greater than 2 million acres of property, together with the nation’s largest bison herd.

He spoke typically of reviving the West’s bison herds. Researchers at Texas A&M University credited his donation of some bulls in 2005 with serving to improve the genetic variety of the final herd of southern Plains bison.
The exhibit is split into three geographic areas — the Southeast, Bisonland and the Rockies — and highlights tasks together with restoration of longleaf pine forests, reintroduction of the Mexican grey wolf and administration of what organizers describe as the most important personal bison herds in North America.

Turner, a graduate of The Citadel and the Rhode Island School of Design, is the founding father of Red Sky Productions. His work consists of award-winning environmental movies and documentary images.
